The Wedding Banquet

A modern reimagining of Ang Lee's 1993 classic, co-written by James Schamus who co-wrote the original. When Min (Bowen Yang) learns his grandparents will only fund his dreams if he marries, he proposes a lavender marriage to his lesbian friend Angela (Lily Gladstone) in exchange for funding her IVF procedure.

Starring Kelly Marie Tran, Han Gi-chan, Joan Chen, and Youn Yuh-jung, the film updates the sham marriage premise for contemporary LGBTQ+ life while retaining the original's sharp observations about family expectations, cultural identity, and the lengths people go to in order to satisfy those they love.
