This four-part BBC miniseries depicts the real-life marriage of writer Vita Sackville-West (Janet McTeer) and diplomat Harold Nicolson (David Haig)—one of history's most famous lavender marriages. Both were bisexual and had numerous same-sex relationships, yet their marriage endured as a loving partnership for over 40 years.
Based on the 1973 biography compiled by their son Nigel Nicolson, the series focuses on Vita's passionate affair with Violet Keppel (Cathryn Harrison) and how it tested but ultimately could not break the bond between the two spouses. Perhaps the most directly on-point lavender marriage television production ever made, as both partners were queer and their union was mutually understood.
