Trailer

Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal star as Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist, two cowboys who fall in love while herding sheep in Wyoming in 1963 and carry on a secret relationship spanning two decades. Both men marry women—Ennis weds Alma (Michelle Williams) and Jack marries Lureen (Anne Hathaway)—while continuing their clandestine affair.

Ennis's marriage to Alma is effectively a lavender marriage born of societal pressure and internalized homophobia in the rural American West. The film devastatingly depicts the consequences for the wives who are unknowing participants in these arrangements. Ang Lee's second film on this list dealing with lavender marriages, after The Wedding Banquet.
